AMD FSR arrives on YouTube and VLC: better videos via GPU
During the CES 2024AMD presented a series of new features that should significantly improve the video viewing experience for those who use Radeon graphics cards. In particular, the company announced the implementation of FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) technology for upscaling during video playback on YouTube and VLC.
This is a positive step forward, especially in order to compete with NVIDIA than with its solution RTX Video Super Resolution is dominating the market. In this sense, RTX Video Super Resolution, especially with the update to version 1.5, is achieving noteworthy results, however AMD is trying to offer an alternative of a certain level.
The novelty from AMD, as mentioned at the beginning, it will also affect the VLC media playerwhich will receive an update right in first quarter of 2024. This package will introduce FSR upscaling function and hardware-based noise reduction. As for the final results, only one FSR upscaling image was presented which improved the quality of a YouTube video from 720p to 1440p.
Therefore, to express a more in-depth evaluation we will have to wait a little longer.
