Warrantywise has compiled a list published on Email Online with the 10 most reliable cars to buy in 2024whether new generation or old versions that are popular on the second-hand market.
The list of the most reliable second-hand cars of 2024
The Guarantee Reliability Index classifies models based on different aspects: cost of repairs, brand warranty, level of maintenance, average mileage, age of the vehicle and engine reliability.
The rating takes into account complaints made by customers in the last ten years, if the vehicle has them.
Warrantywise has ensured that the cars compete on equal terms and has analyzed models sold in 2013 with about 120,000 kilometers.
The company has evaluated customer complaints over the last three years to determine the most reliable second-hand vehicles of 2024:
- Toyota Yaris (89 reliability): The car was born in 2011 and is in its third generation, being one of the best-sellers of the Japanese brand.
- Suzuki Swift (87.9 reliability): It has high reliability, low repair costs and a more than competitive price in the second-hand market.
- Mazda2 (85.9 reliability): The repair cost is higher than other vehicles on the list, but Mazda’s excellent coverage places it at the top.
- Toyota Auris (85.9 reliability): This gasoline or hybrid car stands out for its reliability and driving experience, a classic in taxis and VTC.
- Toyota Aygo (85.3 reliability): It has low consumption, high reliability and low maintenance costs.
- Toyota Hilux (85.3 reliability): This pick-up stands out for the durability of its body, which resisted an explosion in a BBC experiment.
- Kia Ceed (84.6 reliability): Kia is a classic on reliability lists and the Ceed is one of the brand’s best quality-price models.
- Honda CR-V (83.4 reliability): This four-wheel drive SUV stands out for its low maintenance and engine reliability.
- Peugeot 107 (83.4 reliability): It is one of the most reliable options thanks to the collaboration with Toyota on the engine, identical to that of the Toyota Aygo.
- Kia Rio (82.1 reliability): It stands out for its low cost on the second-hand market and its low maintenance.
Japanese brands top the list in terms of reliability with Toyota as the clear dominant, closely followed by Suzuki and Mazda, second and third position respectively. Honda is the fourth Japanese manufacturer to enter the ranking with the Honda CR-V. Kia is another Asian brand with two best-selling vehicles.
European manufacturers criticize the reliability of second-hand cars. You have to go down to ninth position to find a European brand with Peugeot, of French origin, whose model has been developed in collaboration with Toyota.
