We just welcomed Android 15. Google released the first Developer Preview of Android 15, available only for compatible Pixels, so it’s time to go and see how to install it.

Since this is a Developer Preview, Android 15 will not be installable by joining the Android beta program. You will need to perform a manual installation via OTA file or factory image. In this article we will see how to do it.

How to install Android 15 DP1

The following detailed list describes all the steps to install the first Developer Preview of Android 15:

  • The first step to take obviously consists of download of all the files needed to install Android 15 DP1. There are two installation methods, one which involves installing the OTA file and the second which passes through the factory image. The latter turns out to be the safer, as well as the one recommended by Google, because it protects you from possible installation bugs. Installation via factory image involves unlocking the bootloader and reset of the device to the factory data. In this guide we have described how to do it. Installing from OTA files instead turns out to be the same quicker solution is simple. So first you will have to download the OTA file corresponding to your model, you can find them at this link.

At this point you will have to select the option Apply update from ADBand confirm with the power button.
  • You can then launch the window from the terminal on your PC, connect your phone to the PC and then type the command adb sideload followed by path where the zip file you just downloaded on your PC is located, i.e. the OTA file downloaded in the previous step.
  • If everything is correct you will see the installation progress complete from your PC.
  • At the end of the installation you will find yourself in Recovery mode on your phone, and at this point you can select the option Reboot Now to restart your phone. So you can enjoy the first Developer Preview of Android 15.

Android 15 DP1 reliability

This is still a Developer Preview and therefore it could include bugseven relevant, in daily use.

Therefore, we suggest you do not install it if you plan to use your smartphone as the main device in everyday life. In this case, we suggest you wait for the release of the first public betas, at a minimum.
