Google Messages updates its camera, but you don’t necessarily like it
We’ve been talking a lot lately of the Messages app of Google as part of the dispute between Google and apple over RCS messaging. Now we’re talking about it because the app just received a update.
The update released for the Google Messages app specifically concerns the camera integrated into the app. We are talking about the interface that allows you to take photos and record videos directly from the appand then share the contents in chat.
The new camera interface actually removes the one that was based on stock camera of the phone, in favor of an interface actually easier. As you can see from the screenshots in the gallery, we find overall fewer options for customizing the shots.
The new interface in fact only provides options for it zoomto exchange objective between front and rear, activate or deactivate the flash. Beyond this there is nothing else, whereas previously it was possible to access, for example on the Pixels, options such as white balance and color temperature.
With the new interface it is no longer possible not even activate the grill for the shot. But you will be able to choose whether to take a photo or record a video from the shooting interface, whereas previously this was only possible when launching the camera interface.
In short, the Messages app has a new camera that is certainly simpler than the one that was previously present. Objectively it is a step backbut It doesn’t mean it’s that impactful in daily use of the app, given that it is a messaging app.
The novelty that we have just seen is currently being distributed automatically via server to all those who have the version beta of the Messages app. We expect it to arrive on the stable within the next few weeks.
