Meta ready to halve the subscription for Facebook and Instagram
Half he decided to review his plans about the monthly subscription to Facebook and Instagram. The company, in fact, after some discussions with privacy regulators, chose to halve the monthly fee from 9.99 euros to 5.99 euros. The preview was given directly by a Meta manager and comes following the controversy raised by users about the recently launched service which does not include any advertising.
In particular, the most critical did not appreciate that Meta, in order to guarantee the protection of privacy, ask users for some kind of fee, or the aforementioned monthly subscription. The company, however, has always maintained that this choice was dictated by the need to comply with the EU DMA (Digital Markets Art), which limits the possibility of personalizing advertisements without users’ consent.
In any case, Meta’s lawyer, Tim Lamb, before the European Commission, declared that “We have wanted to accelerate this process for some time because we need to reach a stable situation. Therefore, we proposed lowering the price from 9.99 to 5.99 euros for a single profile and to 4 euros for each additional account”.
This tariff reduction proposal, therefore, has been submitted to the competent European authority and at the same time Meta will have to find an agreement with the entities which deal with data protection, starting with the Irish one which first raised the question.
