Google Maps driving mode will sadly say goodbye in early 2024
Google Maps could say goodbye to its driving mode function in early 2024, as seen in code strings found in the latest version of the application – version 14.52.
The reception to this mode was incredible, as it improved the Google Maps interface to suit drivers. This novelty, launched in the summer of 2021, replaced the driving assistance mode, and now, It seems that the day is approaching when Google removes it completelywhich could change the way users interact with the app while driving.
“To call, send messages, or play media while browsing, tap the microphone to use Assistant,” the second string reads. In other words, it seems like Google is pushing people to use Google Assistant while driving instead of Google Maps driving mode.
This means users will need to use voice commands to interact with Maps, which recently improved voice recognition for faster response. The initiative seeks to reduce visual interaction with the mobile screen while driving, prioritizing everyone’s safety.
Code Strings Indicate Google Maps Driving Mode Will Be Removed in 2024
This mode, which came to leave behind the Android Auto app on mobile phones, starts once you start navigation and shows a bar at the bottom of the mobile screen. It offers quick access to Assistant, Google Maps and multimedia functions such as music and more.
Despite its convenience, It seems that Google is not completely convinced and considers that voice interactions, a priori, are safer. However, this seems like a clear setback for many in terms of functionality. On the one hand, there are people who simply don’t like using voice assistants.
There are also others who might be forced to use screen view anyway in case the Assistant makes a mistake or can’t perform a specific task, so the problem they want to solve is still there.
