The new MSI gaming monitors are every gamer’s forbidden dream
Is called MSI MPG QD-OLED 491CQPbut it’s not the name (which almost sounds like a good password) that you need to memorize, but rather the fact that it is the first gaming monitor 49-inch curved QD-OLED by MSI.
We are talking about an ultra wide display, with an aspect ratio of 32:9, resolution 5,120 x 1,440 pixels and curvature 1800R. QD-OLED technology, which is only recently making its way onto televisions, uses Quantum Dots above an OLED panel (find more details on these and other terms in our dedicated guide), to further enhance the already particular performance of OLEDs, for high contrasts and colors that pierce the screen. From a gaming point of view, the GtG response time should be highlighted 0.03 ms and the update frequency of 144 Hz.
This is certainly not the only QD-OLED from MSI, which has a wide range of solutions, both curved and flat, and of various sizes, in order to satisfy the needs of all gamers.
And to better protect displays of this type from the much-feared burn-in, MSI has improved the function OLED Care, bringing it to version 2.0, minimizing the risk of damage to the OLED panel during prolonged use. This is possible by reducing the brightness locally in the most static areas, such as graphics in video games, window taskbars or the borders between two side-by-side applications.
We also highlight the particular design without fanthanks to the presence of a film of graphene behind the entire screen, which allows the heat to be effectively dispersed silentwhich is no small detail, given that fans and gaming are an often annoying combination.
Among the conveniences that are nice is a door USB-C with 90 Watt Power Deliveryvery useful for connecting a laptop with a single cable for power and video output, making a display that was already able to please everyone even more flexible.
We will update the article with prices and availability for Italy but we have been informed that in the international market the price will start from around 1,100 dollars.
If you are looking for something with a more reasonable size, MSI has a solution for you too, starting from MEG 321URX QD-OLED. It is also a display with QD-OLED technology, which guarantees excellent brightness and brilliance, but also the deep blacks of OLEDs. Among its peculiar features we also find OLED Care 2.0 and a couple of specific features for gamers.
In the lower part of the display there is in fact an RGB LED bar which can synchronize with the life bar of the game you are playing, thus emptying as you take hits. Perhaps even more interesting is an artificial intelligence feature called AI SkySight which shows on the screen with a very clear indication from which side the enemies are coming, allowing you not to miss a single assault and to defend yourself from even the most insidious bad guys.
The monitor obviously has an upgradeable firmware, allowing more and more games to be compatible with these features. The monitor is a 32 inch, 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) with refresh rate at 240 Hz. The exact same monitor without the two features for gamers is instead called MPG 321URX QD-OLED and if you want to give up the 90W PD port in favor of a 50W one you can opt for MAG 321UPX QD-OLED.
Finally, the company also presented a monitor for pro gamers with refresh rate at 500 Hz. This is in mini LED technology, a diagonal of 27 inches and a WQHD resolution. It’s called MPG 272PX Mini led.
