NIVIDA just showed the future of video games, and it has nothing to do with graphics
NVIDIA has been working on a very interesting project for months, which essentially consists of bringing video game characters to life through artificial intelligence. During the Game Developers Conference 2024 various were shown demowhich easily allow us to glimpse a very different future, and much more dynamiccompared to the present.
Artificial intelligence is a powerful tool that can significantly improve the player experience by making games more dynamic, engaging and unique. We are excited to partner with Ubisoft to leverage NVIDIA ACE technology in digital character enhancement.

The so-called “Neo NPCs” are non-player characters designed to interact in real time with the protagonists, the environment and the other characters. This means that the same game will never be… the same, because the characters encountered during the adventure will react differently each time, based on a series of environmental variables and those relating to the other characters.
Ubisoft in particular it showed different scenarios, which highlight how these AI characters react to the environment and the context, thanks also to the memory of the conversations, as well as to the collaboration between them, which leads them to “make decisions”, unlocking new dynamics, and bringing the game design And immersion of gaming to the next level.
Artificial intelligence will allow players to experience experiences that are not yet fully defined, with more evolved worlds, nuanced characters and new and adaptable narratives. Collaborating with NVIDIA to prototype NEO NPCs with the Audio2Face solution helped us improve image quality and improve the quality of narration.

In recent years we have seen a real escalation of graphics and ways to make them more beautiful at the cost of fewer hardware resources. Finally, however, there is a new paradigm, which brings attention back to what matters even more: the historythe storytelling, the interaction and the realism. Games that seem real, not fixed and immutable glass bowls.
The prospect is certainly attractive, because puts the player back at the center of attention, but it will still take some time before these demos lead to something concrete for the general public. However, if the progress of AI in the last two years has taught us anything, it is that gods strides are done in short whileso we have something to hope for.
