Here’s the Pixel Fold 2: a whole different story?
2024, just like 2023, will also be an important year for foldables. AND Google has some important innovations in mind in this sector. In the last few hours the first image of Pixel Fold 2.
The photo you find below shows the alleged look of Pixel Fold 2. We immediately notice one substantial innovation: on the back we can’t find the photo bar to which we were now accustomed for Pixel devices, but rather a square photographic modulewith rounded edges.
So goodbye to the horizontal bar for Pixel cameras? It seems so. In fact, the image shows us a Pixel Fold 2 which has a square photographic module with sensors arranged on two lines. The other substantial innovation consists in the number of photographic sensors: Fold 2 seems to have four sensorswhile the first generation Fold had three.
Pixel Fold 2 could in fact have a main sensor, a telephoto lens, a wide-angle lens and a fourth sensor whose nature we ignore.
It is unclear whether it will be a infrared sensorlike the one we find on Pixel 8 Pro which has the purpose of measuring the temperature of objects, or something different like a ToF.
From the photo we also understand that Pixel Fold 2 could arrive with a narrower external display compared to the generation we know. It almost seems like it’s a form relationship similar to what characterizes the screens of non-foldable smartphones. This change in reality it would make senseespecially in terms of compatibility with the interface of most smartphone apps.
So are we really faced with the definitive look of the Pixel Fold 2? We wouldn’t put our hand in the fire. Given the reliability of the source who shared the image, we must consider that the device is currently still found in the engineering phase. And then what we saw could only be one of the prototypes which Google is testing.
However, if everything we have seen were to be confirmed, then we would find ourselves faced with a big change for Google and its Pixel philosophy. In fact, it seemed that Google’s smartphones had finally arrived had assumed their own identity well defined, also from a design point of view. Maybe Google wants to mix the cards on the table once again?
