iPhone 16 could represent a return to the origins. Or maybe not

apple, but in general the same applies lately to all the big smartphone manufacturers, it is not usual to annually introduce big changes to the design of the iPhone, and the most obvious examples of disruption have been iPhone 6 And iPhoneWhile iPhone 11, And iPhone 14 Pro with the Dynamic Island, they were less disruptive but still noteworthy updates.

As for the others, there have been changes, but all in all marginal, and this also applies to the latter iPhone 15which present a curved edge and the back in frosted glass. With iPhone 16, instead we could witness an obvious one change, at least as far as blocking is concerned rear camerasin addition to the arrangement of buttons And of the antenna, even if perhaps the most important news has been set aside.

The site MacRumors he has in fact managed to get his hands on some pre-production renderings of the next iPhone, called internally DeLorean, revealing how Apple managers are considering three designs for the back of the phone.

One, in particular, is particularly evocative, as it recalls the style of the never too lamented iPhone.

On the left you can see the first of these prototypes, precisely the one with the iPhone X style design, in yellow. In addition to camera block harking back to the past, the device also features the Action button it’s a volume button unified capacitive, i.e. not separated into Volume Up and Volume Down.

The iPhone in the center, in rose, instead it features an iPhone 12 style camera block, one of Apple’s most successful models, with a button Action and volume separated, while the iPhone on the right, color midnight, it features the same camera block, but a button Action bigger and the new button Capture.

As for the style of the camera block, second MacRumors Apple has considered both possibility, but has done more testing with the more modern design it recalls iPhone 12.

In any case, it seems clear that the cameras they will be aligned vertically (we are obviously talking about smooth models), in order to recognize them more easily the latest model from the previous one (and from 12?).

Moving on to volume button unified capacitive, it seems like it should have come with iPhone 15 Probut the project (called Bongo) was canceled due to technical problems, and separate mechanical keys will probably be maintained for iPhone 16.

Some feature a significantly larger action button, which was created as part of Project Atlas in an attempt to change the action button from mechanical to capacitive, while others have the same button now present on the iPhone 15 Pro. At the moment Apple seems oriented towards bringing a button Capacitive action.

Apple is also experimenting with a new, capacitive button on the right side of the iPhone 16called Capture and known internally by its code name Project Nova. Apparently the button will feature a force sensor in addition to the functionality of “touch switching“, although it is not yet clear what this means. The Apple company is however developing an iPhone without a button, so nothing is decided yet.

If implemented, the button would be in the same place as the cutout for the mmWave antenna on iPhone models sold in the United States, so with the iPhone 16 this will be moved to left side of the device.

Finally, the front part presents nothing new, and we can expect the now cleared customs USB-C port for charging. As for the colors, the published renderings should show the correct colors, yellow, pink and midnight, but according to the documentation seen by MacRumors we should expect other shades tested with iPhone 15 and then discarded.

Obviously we are talking about prototypes developed in initial stages of the planning, so nothing is decided yet, but they will certainly open one interesting window on the development of the project.
