Pixel 8s “feel” screen protectors: why it matters

When it comes to top of the range smartphones, for a few years now too Google among the manufacturers competing in the sector. This is thanks to its Pixels, which have become a point of reference for various aspects.

The Pixel 8 that arrived at the end of last year then brought something new that had never been seen before. In addition to being a point of reference for the photographic experience (we remind you of our collection of the best camera phones of the moment), the devices arrived with integrated artificial intelligence.

This allows the Pixel 8 and, especially, the Pixel 8 Pro to show off exclusive features, based precisely on artificial intelligence. In the last few hours, another new feature has emerged online which has arrived on the Pixel 8. It is the functionality for the automatic detection from the protective films.

The films that protect smartphone screens have the important and obvious role of prevent accidental damage to the displays of the devices, given that it is one of the most important and most fragile components of a smartphone at the same time.

But films can negatively impact on the responsiveness and accuracy of the touchscreen, given that they constitute a interference between the sensor (the touch screen) and the user’s fingers.

For this reason, several smartphone manufacturers have implemented software features for their models that allow you to increase sensitivity of the touchscreen when installing a film. The added value of the Pixel 8 is that they know how to recognize it automatically if a film has been installed.

The automatic recognition of the installation of a film generates a notification to the user, which suggests enabling the feature to increase the touch sensitivity of the screen. Clearly it’s not mandatory to do it. The same type of notification appears automatically when the phone detects that the film has been used removed.

The functionality was automatically enabled from Google for all Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro via server. For some reason, Google hasn’t enabled it for the Pixel 7 series (where you can still enable the feature to increase touch sensitivity).
