Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra with a new ultra wide: 50 MP and f/1.9 aperture, according to a rumor

Among the areas of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra that will have novelties compared to the current top of the range is that of the cameras. Rumors claim that the scheme will remain unchanged compared to that of the S24 Ultra, so there will once again be 4 sensors on the back, but Samsung seems determined to intervene on the ultra wide and telephoto lenses by giving them larger sensors, which will increase performance in difficult lighting conditions, and higher resolutions.

According to X insider Ice Universe, who is always very knowledgeable about Samsung, the ultra-wide Galaxy S25 Ultra will receive several improvements compared to the S24 Ultra. Here are what the main specifications should be :

  • Resolution: 50 MP (from 12 MP)
  • aperture: f/1.9 (from f/2.2)
  • Sensor size: 1/2.52 inch (from 1/2.55″)
  • pixel da 0,7 µm.

These are identical specifications to those of the 5x periscope telephoto lens of the Galaxy S24 Ultra , with the (obvious) exception of the aperture that does not depend on the sensor but on the lenses. The insider does not comment on the circumstance that is certainly curious, but there is therefore the possibility that Samsung uses the sensor that currently, on the S24 Ultra, takes photos with 5x zoom, combining it with the optics necessary to play the role of an ultra-wide camera.

If the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s ultra-wide sensor is indeed the one used today on the S24 Ultra as a 5x “telephoto,” then it will be able to shoot ultra-wide 4K video at 60 fps and even 8K at 30 fps . It’s likely that Samsung will give the sensor an autofocus mechanism so that it can also be used to shoot macros. In short, the features of the Galaxy S25 Ultra are starting to emerge, and Ice Universe is one of the most active rumors.

In the last few hours, the same insider confirmed a (his, moreover) indiscretion from the end of August on the thickness of the top of the range. This time Ice Universe also gave “the numbers”: 162.8 mm in height, 77.6 mm in width and a thickness of just 8.2 mm (with a gain of 0.4 mm on the previous generation).
