Samsung’s feed loses an important piece and we have no idea who will replace it

The German editorial Axel Springer confirmed that the Upday store will close by the end of this year. Upday is known for having been present on many Samsung smartphones, following an agreement signed between the two companies in 2015 (to be precise, it is available on Galaxy phones in 34 European countries). With the closure of the platform, Springer will focus on relaunching the service with AI-driven news in summer 2024.

As regards the 150 employees in service, 70 members will remain on the news platform in order to materialize the relaunch process. In this regard, the company stated that the transformation will consist of exploration “of the opportunities that artificial intelligence presents for journalism and the news industry more generally”. Let us remember, among other things, that Axel Springer owns two of the best-selling German tabloids, namely Bild e Welt as well as the political news website entitled Politic.
