ElevenLabs Launches Free Reader App in 32 Languages

ElevenLabs, a company specializing in AI powered audio products , has announced the global launch of its Reader app, available for free on iOS and Android. The app stands out for its ability to read text with natural voices, overcoming the robotic reading problem typical of many similar apps.

The app offers a wide range of voices to choose from, with the ability to select different languages after registration. At launch, the app already includes several preloaded texts, including classics such as “Cinderella” and “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes”. An innovative feature is the ability for users to upload their own texts through various methods: direct writing, pasting a link, importing files (EPUB, PDF, TXT) or even scanning documents . The app also supports OCR , allowing you to read text from PDFs containing image scans.

Despite some technical restrictions (such as compatibility only with Android 7.0+ and the prohibition on use on devices with an unlocked bootloader), the app presents itself as an interesting alternative for audiobook lovers. It is especially advantageous for those interested in public domain books, offering a potential significant saving compared to paid audiobook services .

The app is intended for personal use only , with no option to download or export audio content for commercial purposes. For literature enthusiasts, ElevenLabs suggests using resources like Project Gutenberg or Standard Ebooks to access a wide range of public domain books to listen to through the app. As a reminder, in July the company launched Turbo 2.5, a fast text-to-speech AI model . With it, third-party companies can now develop conversational agents based on advanced language models , integrate them into hardware devices like smart glasses that can read text, or use them in video games to bring characters to life.
