Google News says goodbye to digital magazines: here’s what to do

How many of you are regular users of Google News? You will probably have come across one of its notifications on your smartphone at least once, but it is more unlikely that you will also have found yourself using its megazine service. Precisely for this reason, as communicated on this page, starting from next month Google will remove support for paid magazines both from the News application and from the site.

This change after all will not involve a significant number of users according to the company, also because the purchase of magazines it was already no longer available since 2020but the affected content in the profile will still be removed (you can take a look at yours here).

So as not to lose their contents, interested users will still be able to export almost all copies of their magazines before December 18th. The magazines that they cannot be exporteddue to interactive elements, will be anyway refunded.

Google commented like this:

Support for magazine content in Google News is coming discontinued effective December 18, 2023which means that if you have previously purchased or subscribed to magazines, access via the Google News app or from news.google.com to your magazine library will be removed.

To continue logging in to previously purchased magazine contents, we offer the opportunity to export and save each purchased issue. In some cases, purchased magazines contain interactive elements that cannot be downloaded and saved for future access, and we offer a refund for this content.

Big G also lets it be known that interested users will still receive an email titled “An update to Google News magazine support,” where it will be explained how to download copies of its own magazines. The December 18, 2023 the deadline remains for both save your contents both for request a refund.
