Tesla aims to improve Autopilot safety: here is the latest update

Tesla, after an investigation started about two years by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) on its system Autopilotreleased a software update for over 2 million cars. In particular, the update to version 2023.44.30 implements a number of features that will allow drivers to pay more attention when using Autopilot.

Getting to the heart of the news, the update will affect Model S (produced from 2012 to 2023), Model X (2016-2023), Model 3 (2017-2023) and Model Y (2020-2023). Once installed, the update will implement further controls and warnings which will aim to convince the driver to use Autopilot according to the right rules, starting with the hands on the steering wheel and paying maximum attention to the road. Moreover, as highlighted by Tesla itself, Autopilot is a level 2 driving assistance system: the driver, therefore, has control of the car and is responsible for everything that happens during the journey.

As for the changes, the visibility of alerts will be increased in the user interface as well it will be easier to activate and deactivate Autopilot. Furthermore, the system will be even more restrictive towards those who do not use this Tesla function correctly.

In short, the car manufacturer is trying to make steps forward in the field of road safety, however it would seem that the NHTSA will continue with its investigation.
