At CES 2020 Samsung presented Ballie, a small all-purpose robot that looked like it came out of a science fiction film. We had lost track of it, also thanks to the pandemic, but the Korean company had not forgotten about it, and here Ballie 2.0 arrived at this year’s CES: it has a integrated projectorcan feed pets and also responds to phone calls. Too bad it doesn’t also make coffee, but there is an alternative for that too.

In the demonstration video you find below Ballie walks around the house, a bit of a butler and a bit of a “spy”, and allows you to remotely control what is happening, interacting with the robot via normal means if necessary. text messagerather than with a joystick.

Obviously there is integration with other connected devices in the home: Ballie can turn on the lights and control other functions (certainly via SmartThings), as well as to project pictures on the floor or wall, also complete with audio (which can also be played solo).

Just think that Ballie is the first projector in the world that automatically detects the position and inclination of the face of the user and adapts accordingly, for example projecting a video call on the wall in front, or a training session in a supine position on the ceiling.

At the end of the video you can also see a mini-Ballie, but we have no news about him. To be honest, we don’t even know much about Ballie, which was only shown on video, but we are not aware of being physically present at CES in Las Vegas, and Samsung was careful not to share further information. In fact, we’re not even entirely sure we need such a butler, but seeing him wander around the house following us like a puppy would definitely be fun, at least for a while.
