Because GTA 6 is the most anticipated game ever

The first official trailer for GTA 6 was released today, probably one of the most anticipated and anticipated ever. But why so much hype behind a video game? Anyone who has played past titles in the saga will probably have an opinion of him, but there is still some objective data that makes today’s announcement particularly important.

A long diet

The GTA saga began way back 1997but that’s probably only with GTA III, released in 2001that the full potential of the series has flourished.

Grand Theft Auto was basically the inventor of a new way of playing, which we can generically refer to as open world, a mechanic that was later taken up in a thousand ways and as many different titles. Don’t you agree with the term “inventor”? Ok, so let’s say GTA has consecrated and cleared through customs the open world dynamics among the general public.

In the various chapters of GTA there has always been a clever mix (in varying doses) of RPG, action, adventure, driving, and so on and so forth.

In fact, there have always been numerous games and sub-games within the main plot, but the possibility of wandering around the large map doing whatever you wanted, whether it was jumping with a parachute or doing yet another crazy stuntwas the truly unexpected element, which broke the canons of linearity that characterized video games of the time.

And for a few years the GTA wave was like a Tsunami. 2002: GTA Vice City. 2004: GTA San Andreas. 2008: GTA IV, with its “next gen” graphics. And finally, in 2013GTA V, a game so long-lived that it is still played locally today and above all onlineand modifications continue to flourish to adapt it to the passing times.

And then the fast. They have passed over ten years from the last chapter of the saga, which in the meantime has seen the rise of numerous imitations of all kinds, which have done nothing but raise the bar while waiting for GTA 6.

Add to all this the fact that GTA V is now aiming to 200 million copies soldin third place on the podium of the best-selling video games of all time.

It is therefore logical that expectations are very highboth due to the prolonged diet and because the competition certainly hasn’t stood by and watched, but everyone expects GTA to be the one to reinvent a genre that he himself consecrated. Whether it succeeds or not we will only find out after its release, which probably won’t happen for another year, during which teasers, trailers and other leaks will only increase the hype which we have talked about so far (with the risk perhaps of pumping it up too much, but that is another matter).

Too bad then that the fast continue, because GTA 6 won’t be released before 2025 and only on next gen consoles. And the monkeys dance…

The best of both worlds

GTA V was, and still is, one of those virtuous examples in which no player was overlooked.

You like adventures in single player, you against “the computer”? The very long story and the many side missions of the game are there for you. Do you prefer online multiplayer with players from all over the world? GTA Online has been a cornerstone of the genre for years: a constantly evolving virtual world where up to 30 players can clash/meet in free roam among the settings made famous by the single-player campaign.

Considering the ever-increasing impact that online gaming has had from 2013 to today, it is practically certain that GTA 6 will not disappoint from this point of view, but it is still too early to know exactly what awaits us. The point is that it is a title awaited by a host of players very heterogeneousand this only increases the expectations, already referred to in the previous point.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

There has always been an element that has distinguished GTA: that of putting the player in the shoes of bad.

After all, the title speaks clearly: “a grand car theft“. Here you are not superheroes saving the world from evil people, you are not eliminating hordes of zombies, in short you are not champions of good: you are literally the villain of a story told by someone else. Characters with an often turbulent past, with a propensity to use weapons of all kinds, and with more or less evident mental imbalances (any reference to Trevor Philips it is not purely coincidental).

Call it “evil charm” if you want, even if perhaps it’s a bit excessive as a stereotype. Yes, because we often end up fraternizing with these characters, even a little unlucky, which ultimately seem less bad than they would be if seen from the outside. And the skill of GTA was perhaps precisely this. It’s not a Carmageddon where the sole purpose is to asphalt innocent pedestrians: in GTA the border is more labile, and this is how it has an even greater impact on the player, who has a relief valve “with a pass”, because after all, those you will massacre are (for the most part) other no-good people.

And what will GTA 6 be like from this point of view? Well, after the triptych of protagonists of the previous chapter, we expect nothing less, and if the world has considered it acceptable 10 years ago, he will certainly have no problem becoming fond of it even now. But this is another matter, which perhaps we will delve into after the launch of the game. For today we just need to dream a little with the first trailer, and perhaps start wondering which of the new protagonists we will like to play the most.
