ChatGPT by OpenAI is enriched with a new and interesting feature: it is Read Aloud, or the ability to read one’s answers aloud. The option, among other things, is already available both on the web version and on the apps for Android ed iOS.
Going into detail, Read Aloud is able to speak 37 languages as well as automatically detecting the language of the text being read (the function is available for both GPT-4 and GPT-3.5). All of this demonstrates what OpenAI can do through multimodal capabilities (the ability to read and respond through more than one medium) revealed soon after a competitor, Anthropic, implemented similar features to its AI models.
There is no complex operation required to start the feature. In fact, on mobile apps, users will have to press and hold the text to open the Read Aloud player: in this way you can play, pause or rewind reading.
The web version, however, shows a speaker icon under the text. Finally, let us remember that in September 2023, ChatGPT received a voice chat feature: basically, users could ask a question without typing the text. Now, thanks to the latest update, the chatbot will also be able to respond out loud.
