Chromecast with Google TV (4K) continues to update incognito

Google is also very present in the smart TV segment, not so much with hardware devices but with its software products. Let’s talk about Google TV, in the context of which in the last two years we have also seen the arrival of smart dongle for TVs.

These devices are the Chromecast with Google TV, which arrived on the market in two variants which differ in terms of maximum supported resolution. In the last few hours a new update for the 4K variant.

Software update for Chromecast with Google TV 4K matches the build STTE.230915.005.S1. As often happens with the firmware update of these devices, the changelog is not particularly explanatory.

It is in fact an update of about 100 MBwhich definitely should update the patches Android security. These are the October patches, a little late compared to the patches that are distributed for the Pixel series products. This is not unusual for Chromecast series devices, given that the latest update had updated the patches to those of October.

For the rest, the changelog is not very rich. We talk about general optimizations to stability without specifying exactly which aspect has been optimized. However, those who installed it noticed that the startup animation has been updated, inserting the Google TV branding.

From a software point of view, the basics remain Android TV 12. It is still not clear when Android TV 14 will arrive. We are now certain of the direct transition to Android TV 14, but we do not yet know when it will be distributed to the public.

The update we just described is currently during automatic distribution at level global for the 4K version of Chromecast with Google TV. We expect it to also arrive on the HD version in the short term.
