When users need to share a photo, file or link Android they have a fantastic tool at their disposal, Nearby Sharing, which may soon change its name and logo, to become QuickShare.

Does this sound familiar? Exact. The users Samsung they know well the Korean giant’s propensity to create duplicates of services Googleand therefore in the One UI have two tools at their disposal that perform the same task: QuickSharethe owner one, and Sharing nearby (Nearby Share), by GrandeG. Now according to a leak they could soon merge into a single tool, Quick Share.

This was revealed in a post on X by the leaker Kamila Wojciechowskawho after receiving a Google Play Services update (version 23.50.13) discovered that Nearby Share it has not only become QuickSharebut also the icon has been modified.

Following the update, Wojciechowska received a notification that the system advised her how Nearby Share had become Quick Share, inviting her to look for the new first name And icon to share documents.

Users will then find the new name and logo in the quick settingsin the dialog box for detectability and in the interface of file sharingand the new icon will be visible in the various buttons and items (as you can see in the images below).

Simple coincidence or something more? It’s difficult to know exactly, but digging into the Google Play Services app, Wojciechowska she discovered some kind of service guide, which according to her, in addition to the fact that the new name is identical to that of Samsung, suggests that Google and the Seoul company have decided to merge the two tools, or at least make them interoperable.

At the moment there is no evidence of this merger, although it seems rather likely, also because if this were not the case, Samsung users would find two icons QuickShare in the sharing window, just like they have now Sharing nearby And QuickShare. Which would be less than optimal.

So we might expect that not only all Android users will have a new name for Sharing nearbybut that Samsung device owners will only have one, which would imply that one of the two companies has implemented the other’s service in its sharing tool.

At the moment, despite having installed the beta of the app Google Play Serviceswe are still stuck on the version 23.49.14 of December 17, and also on APK Mirror the new one cannot be found 23.50.13, so we can’t touch the novelty first-hand. We remind you that you can update Google Play Services by going to your phone’s Settings, tapping Apps > Show all Apps > Google Play Services > App details. You will be redirected to the Play Store page and can update it.
