The DTT blackout is coming forward: the RTVE channels that you will not be able to see from this morning

Spain will finally join European countries such as France or Germany and improve the quality of its television broadcasts.

The digital terrestrial television (DTT) system will disappear as of February 14 and the SD channels cannot be seen. Spain will make the definitive leap to high definition after months of adaptation to the television systems. HD resolution (1,280 X 720 pixels).

The Government of Spain intended to implement the measure on January 1, 2023, but the lack of resources of some stations and the high number of old television stations have slowed down the transition. The general channels (La 1, La 2, Antena 3, Cuatro, Telecinco and LaSexta) will not suffer changes since they have had HD support for a few years. The regional chains with fewer resources will suffer the consequences.

This does not mean that the stations completely disappear from the television grid. Some networks will broadcast in HD on other frequencies, so They can be retuned for televisions that support high resolution. Older televisions will see the screen black, so they will not be compatible with this new support.

At the moment, no public subsidies are expected due to the upcoming DTT blackout. The Spanish They will have to individually assume the change from an SD decoder to one that supports high resolution (second generation of the DVB-T system) or a new television for models that are not compatible.

RTVE advances the DTT blackout to this morning

The RTVE channels that will stop broadcasting starting this morning are the SD option of La 1, La 2, Clan TVE, 24 Horas, Teledeporte and TVE Internacional, reports South Journal. Some channels such as Clan TVE will automatically switch to HD, so it will not be necessary to retune the television.

RTVE has made an investment in technological equipment to improve its broadcasts, and has announced that it will maintain its channels in HD, but will create two new ones in 4K: La 1 UHD and La 2 UHD. These stations can be tuned from February 7 and will be available for televisions that support this screen resolution.

This 4K broadcast is not new, RTVE has been using the format on its RTVE Play platform, compatible with many Smart TVs and Chromecast systems, with programs like Mirror Mathematics. Now the television group is carrying out pilot tests to broadcast in 8K live using a 5G connection, which will be a new milestone worldwide.
