Flipper Zero begins to arrive at schools, and it is a real danger

School classrooms have always been a breeding ground for new technologies and trends. Not all of them are beneficial for the educational environment and some can be dangerous. This is the case of Flipper Zero or Tamagotchi for hackers.

Recently, Flipper Zero has begun to appear in schools, raising significant concerns among parents and educators due to cybersecurity.

This is a multifunctional device that initially gained popularity as an ethical hacking tool, now found in the hands of students. Its ability to interact with a variety of technologies, from manipulating RFID and NFC signals to tapping into wireless communication systems, makes it a potential risk in the school environment.

It is not difficult to imagine a classroom where cell phones begin to ring or turn off while other electronic systems are interrupted. These are not random technical issues, but the result of a student using a Flipper Zero to perform pranks.

Worse yet, to compromise the security of your colleagues’ devices. This situation is not just a nuisance, but a direct violation of privacy and security. And there are already schools where they are starting to worry.

It must be remembered that Flipper Zero has a small radius of action, about 50 meters, and that its most common attack is spamming content over Bluetooth, so generally turning off the Bluetooth connection is enough to avoid its attacks.

Flipper Zero comes to American schools

That has been the case of a school in Tennessee, where Flipper Zero has become a problematic tool within the school environment. This device fits in the palm of one hand, so it is difficult to detect.

According to school sources collected by WSA, a student used this device to turn off some phones in a classroom. The school administration acted quickly, sanctioning the student, although it assured that the center’s network was not compromised.

The use of Flipper Zero in schools raises a complex ethical and legal question. While its use can be a valuable means of teaching about technology and cybersecurity, the potential for abuse and disruption is undeniable.

Educators and parents face the challenge of balancing technology education with security and respect for privacy. The arrival of Flipper Zero in schools is a sensitive issue that requires careful considerationhas not yet reached educational centers in Spain, but it will not take long to do so.
