Google confirms that Drive is losing data: here are the recommended solutions

Getting to the heart of the news, the Mountain View giant specified that the problem affects a limited number of users and that an update capable of resolving the issue will be released soon. In the meantime, the investigation is progressing, with the company providing practical advice on how to avoid running into the problem described above. In particular, users will have to:

  • Don’t press “Disconnect account” in Drive for desktop;
  • Don’t delete or move the app data folder:
    • Windows: %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalGoogleDriveFS
    • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/DriveFS
  • Also, if you have space on your hard drive, you may want to make a copy of your app data folder.

Therefore, the company confirmed the reports of the various users who yesterday asked for explanations directly on the Google support forum.

In this regard, a South Korean user stated that his Drive it was even restored at the end of May 2023: therefore, anything modified or added after this date has disappeared. Among other things, the user himself clarified that he has never synchronized or shared his files with anyone else.
