Google Photos is one of the most used apps for managing the photo gallery, but if Google has worked a lot on the function of memories, to offer you “little films” of automatically selected photos, there is still some work to do on the cataloguing of images (if you want to discover every secret of the GrandeG app, don’t forget to take a look at our guide which explains how to use it to manage your personal library).
That’s why the latest news is particularly interesting. As reported by AssembleDebug on Collection.
Google Photos has four tabs at the bottom: Photos, Memories, Search And Collection, the place where you find all the images on your phone, but which is currently organized into folders like Camera, Screenshots, WhatsApp Images or albums created by the user, without offering cataloging (which, for example, the apple Photos app does, where in addition to albums you also find the possibility of selecting photos by automatically recognized people, animals or places).
With the new function, first of all the card is no longer called Collection but it becomes “Collections” (Collections in English, we don’t know how it will be translated), while maintaining the same icons, and also the organization internal changes.
At the top you can no longer find the quick access tabs of Favorites, Utilities, Archive and Recycle Binbut there will be the folders you use most frequently (below, on the left).
Immediately below, a series of tabs will be shown that allow you to log in quickly to a series of automatic categories, such as People and Animals, people’s names and more. At the bottom, we find the cards that were once at the top, that is Favorites, Utilities, Archive and Recycle Bin (below right).

Also now some items are more easily accessible, such as Secure Folder, Import Photos and Move Photos to Archivewhich were previously under the tab Utility.
If the name Collections This doesn’t sound new to you, it’s because already in 2018 Google had launched a similar function in its app of the same name, a section within the tab Saved pages which in Italian was translated as Collections, and where you find all the links, images, texts or everything you want to save from the Web.
Here we don’t know how (and if) the name of the Collection tab in Google Photos will be changed, because this is called in English Library, and now it has been renamed to Collections, but seen that in Italian in the Google app Collections was translated into Collection, it is also possible that it will not be changed.
Overall, the new feature looks like a step forward in the management of gallery, but as we said it is currently only a tool under development activated by enabling a flags, so we don’t know if and if so when it will be released.
