Google has a solution for disappearing files in Drive

They are important to us news from Google regarding the strange data loss that, as reported by some users, had affected their Drive application on desktop starting last week. The Mountain View company has a solution to the problem and has published a specific guide with the steps to follow recover your files.

First of all you will need to update the application to the latest available version (85.0.13.0 or higher) for Windows or macOS. Then you have to run the recovery tool of the app like this:

  • open the Drive desktop application
  • hold down the button Shift and click on Settings
  • click on ”Restore from backup”

You will then be notified by the notification “The recovery has begun” which notifies us of the start of the procedure. Finally, unless there are malfunctions or errors, all recovered files will be placed in a new folder called “Google Drive Restore” at the end of the process.

In case of problems, Google lets you know that you can send feedback, again via the Drive app for desktop, using the hashtag #DFD84 and by ticking the box which says to include diagnostic logs.
