Google’s new project is… no, you’ll never guess

In order to effectively address the climate change, we need to accelerate the transition to clean energy. In this regard, Google is thinking about enhancing geothermal energy, capable of using new techniques to exploit the constant heat present in the earth’s crust and thus generate electricity while avoiding burning fossil fuels (therefore without releasing carbon into the atmosphere).

In particular, Google has started a collaboration with clean energy startup Fervo with the aim of developing an enhanced geothermal energy project. Getting to the heart of the news, Fervo uses drilling techniques pioneered by the oil and gas industry to harness heat that would previously have been difficult to access. To take advantage of this underground heat at the site of the Mountain View giant in Nevadathe startup first drilled two horizontal wells and then installed fiber optic cables to capture data showing the flow, temperature and performance of the geothermal system in real time.

The result of these operations is represented by a geothermal plant capable of produce CFE 24 hours a day, using less land than other clean energy sources.

Furthermore, Google recently announced one partnership with Project InnerSpace, a nonprofit organization specializing in the global development of geothermal energy. Therefore, the company is striving to transform the energy sector globally. Moreover, various nations, such as the United States, are also working to pursue the same goal.
