At the Snapdragon Summit Honor had presented a new eye tracking technology arriving on its next top of the range, but everyone had wondered what the applications could be. Now, thanks to a collaboration with the automotive engineer James Brighton Let’s discover one: moving a car just with your gaze (are you looking for a way to reset your Honor smartphone? You’re in the right place: take a look at our guide).

Let’s take a step back. It was the end of October 2023 and Qualcomm was presenting the new one at the Snapdragon Summit Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, then adopted by top models such as Galaxy S24. The central topic of course was artificial intelligence and in a side event the CEO of Honor, George Zhao, had anticipated Magic Capsulesa function of Magic 6 Prothen announced on January 12.

Magic Capsule has been defined as a “multimodal interaction based on eye tracking” and to show the potential of the tool, which exploits the AI potential of the new Qualcomm chip, Zhao had shared a video in which a woman expanded an app (Uber) from a reduced window to the full screen version, simply by changing the direction of your gaze.

At the time it seemed like a advertising gimmick of little practical use, but Honor now wanted to underline the potential of the technology by collaborating with Brighton, and created a video in collaboration with Truck to show them to the world.

In the video we can in fact see how the eye tracking function of HONOR Magic 6 Pro, powered by artificial intelligence, is able to comprehend user intentions based on eye movement and consequently carry out four actions on a suitably modified test vehicle (a camouflaged Alfa Romeo Giulia).

The actions are very simple, but nevertheless impressive. Staring at it gaze on one of the four tabs in the app specially prepared by Honor, the operator can activate the command corresponding, and then start the engine, turn it off, make the vehicle go forward or go backwards.

‌It all works incredibly well: it’s enough fix the button for 2-3 seconds to allow the AI to interpret the command and send it to the vehicle, but obviously this is a proof of concept.

First of all, the car is specially prepared with a system that allows you to press the accelerator and change gear, and secondly yes stops automatically after a few meters without the need for operator interaction.

Nonetheless, the experiment is not used by Honor so much to present itself to car manufacturers, but rather to demonstrate the effectiveness of its solutionevidently seeking the support of the developers to be able to further expand it.

Honor will hold a launch event at MWC on February 25th (probably to present the global version of Magic 6 Pro), while the February 26 will hold a panel on artificial intelligence together with Qualcomm, also at MWC. In the meantime, we leave you with the video, short but interesting.
