When it arrives

Sky Mobile powered by Fastweb debuts on the operator market as early as the first months of 2024. To be precise, the debut is scheduled for February 29So in a week.

Coverage

By relying on Fastweb, Sky Mobile will be able to reach 99% of the Italian territory in 4G, also offering the possibility of browsing in 5G without additional costs. According to what was stated, Fastweb’s 5Gwhich was born from a collaboration with WindTre, by 2025 it will reach 90% of the population, and so is Sky Mobile.

What is included in the first offers

Even though there’s a week to go, Sky hasn’t said anything about what will be the first mobile offers linked to Sky Mobile. From what is reported in the press release, multiple solutions will be available, all with unlimited minutes (no mention of SMS) and various choices of gigabyte packages. However, 5G will be included at no additional cost.

Rates: how much Sky Mobile costs

Sky has not revealed anything even regarding the costs of its first offers. Since there are more tariffs linked to the number of gigabytes, we expect prices starting from figures similar to those of Iliad for example, but it cannot be ruled out that the basic tariffs are more expensive and that there are much more attractive discounts dedicated to Sky or Sky users Wifi.

Constraints and additional costs

“There are no duration constraints or hidden costs”: this is what Sky Mobile’s presentation page says. And also in the press release, it is clearly written that the aim of SKy is to offer clear and transparent contracts, without hidden costs, duration constraints or exit costs.

Of course, there is no mention of remodulations, but as there are no constraints, changing operator will be very simple.

how to switch to Sky Mobile

A virtual operator that relies on a virtual operator?

Let’s clear the doubt: you probably know that FastWeb, in the mobile telephony field, is a virtual operator, a Full MVNO, Full Mobile Virtual Network Operator, that is, an operator that manages the entire proposed service, with the exception of the access network which belongs to the MNO (Mobile Network Operator) on which it relies. As such it takes care of the issuing and validation of its own SIMs, and even in the event of a change of MNO it can continue to use the SIMs already issued.

FastWeb currently relies on TIM networks, usually for 4G, and WindTre networks for 5G. Precisely with WindTre, Fastweb has been engaged since 2020 in the creation of a 5G mobile network which aims to cover 90% of the Italian population by 2026. However, there is one inaccuracy: since 2019, Fastweb has been considered a real mobile operator, after having obtained specific authorization from the Ministry of Economic Development. This is because the operator in question holds some frequencies of the 5G spectrum once owned by Tiscali and also because, as already mentioned, it is engaged with WindTre in the construction of 5G antennas throughout Italy.

Sky Mobile Powered by Fastweb should therefore be an SP MVNO (Service Provider Mobile Virtual Network Operator), an operator who will take care of its own offers and their sale, however relying on the SIM cards of another operator. According to rumors from the end of January, in fact we will purchase Fastweb Mobile SIMs distributed and branded by Sky Italia, confirming the SP MVNO classification that we gave to Sky Mobile.
