McDonald’s bets on Google’s AI: can it really improve the quality of its sandwiches?

McDonald’s would also like to focus on the implementation ofGenerative artificial intelligence. In particular, the company, in collaboration with Google, intends to update its mobile app as well as the software dedicated to orders in order to optimize operations. Among the benefits, customers should get “hotter, fresher food.” It’s not entirely clear how AI will help with this, but McDonald’s has said the updated system will help managers “rapidly identify and implement solutions to reduce business disruption.”

McDonald’s has, for now, avoided the question of replacing human workers with artificial intelligence, specifying only that the system should “reduce complexity” for the store staff and that “will fuel exciting new experiences for staff and customers”. In this sense, Wendy’s, another Google Cloud AI customer took a similar line when it introduced AI ordering tests earlier this year.

Finally, the push on AI also coincides with the implementation of a new operating system “tailored” to unify the experience across the McDonald’s mobile app and in-store kiosks. McD’s says the overall changes will result in “More informed testing and automated solutions to improve restaurant operations.”
