Is a new check coming to WhatsApp?

“A new check is coming to WhatsApp“. Perhaps you have read something similar on the web in the past few weeks, but how come there is still nothing new about WhatsApp on any phone, and what is this new tick what should have come?

In reality, everything is linked to a piece of news from last September, given by the always well-informed WABetaInfo, which is the main source of information regarding rumors on WhatsApp. Meta was in fact working on a change that would have made things uniform across her various apps, such as Facebook and Instagram, that is, a badge with a blue verification check for Business accounts and channels.

At the moment, on WhatsApp, Business accounts and verified channels have a green badge next to their name: you will have noticed if you follow us on our WhatsApp channel! Green has always been the distinctive color of WhatsApp, so there is nothing strange, but given that on the other Meta apps this same badge is blue it also makes sense to want to standardize things.

The same source confirmed at the beginning of January 2024 that WhatsApp is working on a new page for Business users that allows them to add a “verified” badge to their channels. In practice, if the Business account is verified, the channels created by it will also be verified, and probably all this will be linked to the Meta Verified program, already active on Instagram and Facebook.

In short, the phantom new WhatsApp tick it’s just the verification badge that changes color and nothing more; nothing has to do with the blue and gray ticks that are next to the messages, and which allow you to understand whether the message has been sent, received and read by the recipient.

If you are interested in delving deeper into this last topic, we already have a detailed guide on the matter, while for the official arrival of the “new WhatsApp check”, which we later saw was just a badge, we just have to wait, but given that it doesn’t seem to be a big priority not even for Meta, we are ready to bet that it won’t be a big priority for the general public either.
