Airbus’ new electric air taxi is extremely quiet

The current period of great excitement is in the electric aircraft sector, i.e. all those vehicles developed for flight and equipped with electric propulsion. This is because the green light has recently arrived from the European regulatory bodies for their industrial production.

The electric aircraft that interest us most are those that we could use as in the future electric air taxis. After seeing the Volocopter ones, too Airbus shows us its news.

The well-known company specializing in the aeronautical sector has in fact shown its most recent electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL). What we see in the Images in the gallery it’s called CityAirbus NextGenand was developed and manufactured in the company’s new test center located in Donauwörth, Germany.

This new aircraft would be able to fly for 80km with a single charge and reach the speed of 120 km/h. Airbus says such an aircraft is being developed for passenger transportservices doctors And ecotourism.

The company plans to fly to Italy, Germany, Norway and Japan, as well as Latin American regions in the near future with this aircraft.

Among the interesting features of this new eVTOL is its predisposition to automated operational flight mode, which should lead to autonomous flight in the future. From a technical point of view, we find a V-tail, fixed wings and a distributed electric propulsion system, with 16 electric thrusters And 8 propellers.

In addition to having improved the autonomy and maximum cruising speed, Airbus has also worked hard on engine noise. This CityAirbus NextGen expects a noise of 65 dBA in flight and about 70 dBA during landing. These noise thresholds are slightly lower than a hairdryer or vacuum cleaner.

Clearly we are still far from its use to the publicAirbus reported that the tests will continue, but without finding out about hypothetical timing of the public debut.
