Philips Fidelio T2, analysis and opinion of true wireless with the most premium finish in the sector

There are surely more headphone models on the market in-ear True Wireless what days of the year. This makes it difficult to choose the model and we end up making a choice based exclusively on price.

The differences between high-end models, the ones that best sound quality and noise cancellation promises are few and this is where Philips wants to position itself, with a model that stands out from the others due to the material used.

It is not the only thing they offer and we are faced with a dual driver design, Hi-Res support, multipoint connection and great noise cancellation, also including noise cancellation in the microphone while we talk.

The Philips Fidelio T2 They are a bet for the most demanding users, those looking for the best sound quality and a clearly premium and differential appearance.

Of course, all this has a handicap and it is none other than the size of the transport box, very elegant, but perhaps not well thought out if you want to carry it in your pocket. Be that as it may, let’s see what they are like, if they fulfill what they promise and if they are worth it – or not.

Finally a differential design that is committed to premium

The Philips company separates itself from the design line of the rest of the manufacturers which ends up being plastic headphones in a plastic case with different shapes, either with a stabilizer bar and a more or less small and ergonomic case.

I start talking about the design of the box, which already stands out for its metallic finish in a parallelepiped format with circular sides. The base is parallel to the lid.

It has leather on the cover and above it you can read the word Philips. On the front there is a large white LED in vertical mode and below it we see silk-screen printing with a Fidelio laser.

The back has the USB-C connector and the base is where the wireless charging coil is located.

So far so good, if it weren’t for its dimensions. Those edges on the base or lid are annoying if you carry the box in your pocket. In addition to being more than 4 cm high and a constant thickness of practically 3 cm. It is, I can tell you, probably the only point to polish in these headphones.

Once we open the box we see the headphones, in silkscreen L and R and a button for pairing. As the box is opened, the headphones activate and their small status LEDs begin to flash.

The headphones have a leather outer part with a touch area to control, a metal frame, not metallized, and a plastic body with support for silicone tips and they come in no less than 5 different sizes so you can choose the one that best fits your ear canal.

That metal frame has a small micro-perforation for one of the integrated microphones. These headphones have 4 microphones per earpiece. One bone conduction and three traditional microphones.

The design of the headphones has a horizontal stabilizer bar and such an ergonomic shape as the plastic part of the body rests on the ear, offering comfortable support that will prevent them from moving or falling.

Complete app and control system with Hi-Res support

Philips has an app with which to control the advanced functions of the headphones. Here you can activate high quality mode, with LDAC codec if your mobile is compatible. We can also deactivate the touch controls if it is something that does not convince us.

In this app we can choose which noise cancellation modes to have available between off, ambient noise control and noise cancellation.

There is also a 6 band equalizerwith which you can adjust the sound to your liking, choose a low latency mode or activate a native or Google voice assistant.

app-fidelio

When controlling playback using touch controls, you simply have to touch the sunken area of the outer part of the skin.

Controls are with touches and you can tap the right to pause or start playing the multimedia content. Three taps to go from song to song.

On the left, with two taps we go between the different noise cancellation modes. As a point to improve, these controls are not customizable. You adapt to it and function.

Triple quality sound: audio, noise cancellation and call

If there is something I liked about these headphones, it is the audio quality once you start using them. The dual driver configuration is extremely noticeable, since you can have well-defined bass without diminishing the treble and vice versa. Let’s not talk about the dynamic range in Hi-Res mode: a delight.

Apart from this, if you like a sound with more bass or treble you can go to the equalizer and make the appropriate adjustment.

He LDAC mode enables the possibility of listening to Hi-Res music, something I have done with a Galaxy S23 Ultra and the connection now has a maximum of 96 KHz and 32 bitswell above those 44.1 KHz and 16 bits of AAC mode.

Audio quality

Once the mode is configured, the difference is noticeable when you use music applications with Hi-Res support such as Apple Music and the versions lossless of songs.

If you are a music lover or listen to music in a quiet environment, you will notice the difference in the higher-pitched sounds, which become crystalline and defined sounds, as well as in the general spatiality of the mix.

I tell you my experience of the Noise Cancellation based on my experience on a trip from Madrid to Maui with a stopover in Los Angeles: during the trip to the airport, going by train or subway becomes practically silent, and listening to the music without problem.

The same thing happened on the flight, with the background sound of the plane’s engines to which we must add the snoring of the seatmate and, honestly, I did not expect this good performance.

Ear material

It also happened to me be able to talk on the phone in very noisy environments thanks to having a bone conduction microphone.

The voice quality is not the same, but there is no noise at all. With a vacuum cleaner at home, speaking on the phone, they could hear me perfectly without the sound of the air accelerated and forced by the vacuum cleaner.

If we talk about autonomy, you will find another advantage of these headphones. The box is large, but it provides no less than a little more than three charges and with the headphones I have been able to get through an entire flight of almost 9 hours straight with active noise cancellation without having to put them in the box.

Also has fast charge, in 10 minutes in the box we can continue using them for 1.5 more hours. Full charging takes around 2 hours, though.

I once again emphasize the quality of the materials it displays and how despite having a high price, it is on par with the top models on the market such as the Sony WF-1000XM5 and even surpasses the Airpods Pro 2.

Review: Is the Fidelio T2 worth buying?

Here I am going to be very honest. Are some expensive headphonesIf you are looking for something at a reasonable price, they are not for you. If you are looking for small box headphones, these are not for you either.

However, if you are looking for headphones with a great audio qualitytogether with a very notable noise cancellation and a finish and differential materials Compared to the rest of the alternatives on the market, the Fidelio T2 could be your option.

Fidelio T2

They do not have Dolby Atmos support nor head position, something that we have seen in other options on the market such as the Jabra Elite 10 or the Sony WF-1000XM5, so if you are looking for those functionalities, you will not have them.

For the rest, I stick with them for their LDAC sound quality, the Hi-Res option, the comfort of use and their differential design, no matter how much the size of the box hurts me.
