Prepare your Wi-Fi 7 devices: in just a few months you will be able to exploit their full potential

For months we have been hearing about Wi-Fi 7, and in recent times they have appeared on the market more and more compatible devices with this standard, perhaps you don’t know that the Wi-Fi Alliance he actually doesn’t have it yet officially released (by the way, have you seen our review of the Eero Max 7 router?).

Yesterday, however, the announcement arrived that by the first quarter of 2024 the new standard will be made official, which will allow users in possession of compatible devices to take advantage of it full potential.

For those who don’t remember, the WiFi 7 represents the new era of wireless communication, as thanks to the new 6 GHz band (introduced with Wi-Fi 6E) it allows you to go from the theoretical speed of 9.6 Gbps of Wi-Fi 6 / 6E to well 46.1Gbpsand a number of flows maximum that gives 8 it comes to a head 16. Obviously the improvements affect all aspects of connectionand for any further information we refer you to our article dedicated, but the Wi-Fi Alliance has not yet finalized the specifications.

This means that if you buy a router Wi-Fi 7 and a telephone or computer able to take advantage of the new connection features, in reality (at least for certain uses) you will not be able to fully appreciate the generational leap compared to Wi-Fi 6/6E.

In fact, at the moment these devices use a “draft” of the standard and when it is officially released they will receive a firmware update and will finally be able to exploit all its potential.

In fact, the Wi-Fi Alliance states that “Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 7based on IEEE 802.11be technology, will be available before the end of the first quarter of 2024” is that “it will facilitate worldwide interoperability and bring advanced Wi-Fi performance into the next era of connected devices“.

For domestic uses there should be no substantial performance differences, but for certain applications yes, such as for augmented reality And virtual. In fact, the Wi-Fi Alliance states that “As user demand for high-capacity, low-latency technologies such as AR/VR/XR, cloud computing, and industrial IoT grows across all market segments, Wi-Fi 7 devices will deliver optimized performance, even in dense environments in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. Countries with access to 6 GHz will experience the full extent of Wi-Fi 7’s unprecedented performance“.

In fact, remember that to use the a 6 GHz it’s necessary an authorization government, which arrived in Italy in September 2022, one year after the decision of the European Commission which regulated these frequency bands.
