In recent years we have seen an increase in cloud and connectivity services with high levels of security, such as those offering VPNs and email management with end-to-end encryption.
Among the providers of these services we find Proton, a Swiss company that has risen to prominence in recent years by launching various services focused on security. The main ones are Proton Mail And Proton Calendarthe same ones for which some interesting news has just arrived.
Proton has in fact announced the arrival of the official Proton Mail and Calendar app for PCs and notebooks. It is an app that will therefore allow access to the Proton mailbox, and also to the calendar with advanced synchronization capabilities. The app fully supports encryption end-to-end, a fundamental security standard for those who care about the privacy of their conversations.
The Proton Mail desktop app, in addition to fully supporting the end-to-end encryption that we have already known for some time on the Android and iOS apps, also offers the possibility of access emails offlinethat is, when you are not connected to the internet.
The app is able to provide this functionality thanks to the cachingwhen the device is connected to the internet, of a large amount of emails.
Clearly it will not be possible send and use encryption when in offline mode. However, it will be possible to compose emails and then send them. The app indeed automatically it will actually send when the network connection returns. The app allows offline access too without use any Bridge.
Finally, the Proton Mail app for desktop devices will receive a new option For forward communications with automatic end-to-end encryption. However, this functionality will be available exclusively to those who have subscribed to premium profiles.
