Tesla temporarily closes the Gigafactory in Berlin, and the Suez Canal is involved

Tesla is one of the absolute points of reference in the electric car sector, given that the car manufacturer focuses its production exclusively on electric cars.

Over the last few years, Tesla has come a long way, especially in terms of spreading its market in Europe. To meet the growing demand from European countries, Tesla recently opened one of its own Gigafactory in Berlin. The same as it is about to be closed temporarily.

The temporary closure of the Tesla Gigafactory in Berlin is not due to market reasons, but rather to issues geopolitics and of safety. In fact, the closure depends from the interruption of naval transport across the Red Sea and the Suez passage. This decision came from many shipping companies, among which there are those that operate in the transport of materials for the automotive industry.

The decision to discontinue these routes was taken in relation to increasingly frequent attacks than the militants Houthis they launch at ships in transit across the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, as a sign of support for Hamas which is also fighting against Israel in the Gaza Strip.

The temporary closure of such routes means that all ships will instead have to make a much longer ride, approximately 15,000 miles. These translate to approx 10 more days of navigation. An aspect that has some significant consequences for European industries that depend on such transport.

For this reason Tesla has decided to pause the Gigafactory in Berlin between January 29th and February 11th. Hoping that after this date everything will return to normal.
