Teslas have had a rain problem for years, but the solution should be coming soon

The Tesla they have many excellent qualities, but this problem that afflicts them automatic windshield wipers of models from 2018 onwards is quite irritating and, if we want, paradigmatic of the company’s choices (speaking of rain, do you know how to choose car tires to guarantee maximum grip in all conditions?).

Like most vehicles today, Tesla offers an automatic windshield wiper system to match automatically the speed to the intensity of the rain or snow, but since 2018 it has replaced the normal rain sensor with a different solution. Which? But of course on the cameras of its Autopilot system and the computer vision neural network, which the company relies on for everything.

The problem is that it works badly, but so badly that even a Tesla engineer ridiculed it by asking when the company would release the Full Self Wiping (a play on words between Full Self Drivingthe proprietary automatic driving system, and wiping, i.e. the movement of the windshield wipers).

We don’t know if the employee in question is still in his place, but what we do know is that Tesla promises for years a solution to user complaints, who report cases in which i windshield wipers they operate even if not rains and vice versa they do not leave in case of torrential rain.

However, it seems that the American manufacturer is on the right track, because a engineer of the company responded to a videos about X in which you can see the lack of responsiveness of the windshield wipers under a downpour, promising that one will arrive soon update to solve the problem.

The question is relatively marginal, and even if one could make irony about the fact that between the company and the rain there is not a great affinity, as demonstrated by the recent problems with Cybertrucks or the fact that the rear bumper of the Model 3 came off under water, in reality reveals the weaknesses of the system autonomous driving as it is based on the same basic principles.

In fact, Tesla has decided to base each automated decision on the system visionwithout using radar or sensors, and if it can’t get even something as simple as i windshield wipers, certainly users’ trust in autonomous driving could be damaged.
