The Google cemetery is getting bigger… In 4 months!

Google had already announced it some time ago, but now it has provided the official date on which we will say “goodbye” to Google Podcasts: the app will be closed April 2024. From this month, Podcasts will stop working although users will be able to transfer their data to other platforms, such as YouTube Music and other applications.

Specifically, within Google Podcasts in the coming weeks it will be possible to see a banner that will allow you to export the various subscriptions to other apps. This possibility, among other things, will also be guaranteed via an online tool (further details here). Additionally, for podcasts that are not currently available on YouTube, listeners will be able to add them directly to their YouTube Music library via the podcast’s RSS feed. In this sense, there is also the possibility to export Google Podcasts subscriptions as OPML files if you want to switch to a third-party app.

At the same time, Google announced that YouTube Music will benefit of the implementation of the option “mark as played” precisely because of its section dedicated to Podcasts.

The novelty will be available in the next few months, although various users are hoping for a faster release given that it is a rather useful option for this type of content.
