But if holographic projection is currently reserved for eyeglasses, some companies like Looking Glass believe in one solution directly included in the screen of a device (a bit like the disappointing Red Hydrogen One), and now it has launched Looking Glass Goa portable device from 200 dollars which allows you to always carry your images with you and – why not – also a 3D virtual assistant animated by ChatGPT.
Looking Glass Go It features a six-inch 1440 x 2560 (491ppi) screen and a viewing angle of 58 degreesas to see the images in three dimensions you have to move the view, a better solution if you want to show the images to other people than tracking facial automatic.
Looking Glass says the device is made in steel, glass and plastic ABS, It weighs 235 g, measures 1.9 cm thick, is 16 cm high and 8 cm wide. The company says the screen is 10 times thinner than previous Looking Glass displays, and while it doesn’t have a battery (you’ll have to connect it to power via USB-C) it includes Wi-Fi connectivity to receive images from the cloud.
Other features are forward, backward and pause buttons for presentations and a 3.5mm audio jack on the side, but it doesn’t have a speaker.

The applications are very diverse: Looking Glass Go it can serve as a portable digital photo frame, as you can take your own photo as children and thanks to the company’s AI solutions see it in 3D, or you can take a photo with the camera LiDAR of your iPhone Pro to friends (convince them to stand still with their chopsticks in mid-air like in the video) and watch it again.
But the application more exciting It’s thanks to ChatGPT. Looking Glass allows integration with holographic apps that thanks to AI chatbot they put a virtual assistant with their own animated image on your bedside table, capable of communicating or, for example, practicing a language with.
Plus plugins like Unity, Unreal, Blender And WebXR they allow you to develop even more incredible solutions, obviously for developers who are interested in the project.
In itself, apart from not having one drums despite being advertised as a portable device to put in your pocket, it doesn’t look bad, and the starting price is up too Kickstarter, $199is tempting (the full price will be 300 dollars, already less inviting), but the problems remain applications.
Without applications there remains one digital framefun in the first few days but then a bit an end in itself, while a broader development would make it more interesting.
The tool includes starting Lifeforms, the app that generates a holographic character, and supports MakeAvatar, a platform for creating online avatars, as well as supporting community-created apps on Discord. It will be enough?
