TomTom and Microsoft team up to kill Google Maps and Waze

One of the great forgotten brands, TomTom, seems to still have a lot to say and do and wanted to surprise everyone with an unexpected union. Together with Microsoft they will launch a voice assistant for vehicles powered by artificial intelligence and gaining ground on two of the great unbeatables: Google Maps and Waze.

Now, this brand, known for its navigation systems, has worked with Microsoft to create a voice assistant that allows drivers to do all kinds of functions using voice commands. From navigating to finding stops on your route to refuel, controlling on-board systems, opening windows and more, this assistant promises truly easy interaction.

The technology behind this system, as it could not be otherwise, uses large OpenAI language models, supported by Microsoft products, such as Azure Cosmos DB and Azure Cognitive Services.

This assistant will be available on different interfaces from major automakers, although specific partnerships have not yet been announced. Although no specific details have been revealed, the technology will be integrated into TomTom-owned Digital Cockpit, a vehicle infotainment platform.

TomTom will bring generative artificial intelligence to vehicles with Microsoft

The collaboration between TomTom and Microsoft clearly seeks to compete directly with giants such as Google Maps and Waze.

This new and future assistant not only aims to improve navigation in general, but also offers an easier way to control the vehicle and access key functions while drivingmaking it clear that anyone can get on the artificial intelligence bandwagon—and what better way than to do it with Microsoft.

For now It is known that more details will be revealed at CES in January about how this advanced voice assistant really works. With the promise of a transformed driving experience, TomTom and Microsoft are determined to change the rules of the game and provide drivers with a highly attractive alternative to existing navigation platforms.
