WhatsApp says goodbye to spam: you can block any suspicious number without opening the application

Spam is one of the biggest scourges of the Internet, and unfortunately we are also suffering in our instant messaging applications like WhatsApp, but it is something that could end very soon.

It will not have been the first time that you have received a message from an unknown number in WhatsAppwho has tried to scam you or sell you any product that you were not interested in, and until now you had to enter the message, read it, and then block it.

As reported by Android Police, WhatsApp is launching a new functionality which will allow us to block suspicious numbers without having to open the applicationskipping a step.

Very soon, when you receive a suspicious scam or spam message from an unknown number, you will be able to block it from the notification or lock screen of your mobile device.

Specifically, if the message you receive has all the hallmarks of scam attempts, you can expand the quick actions on the lock screen to see the new “block” option right next to the reply button.

We also have another option is that we can inform WhatsApp about the unknown phone number, and in that case the last messages shared with that number would be sent. It’s a way to train the algorithm to know which numbers are scam or spam attempts.

This saves you the effort of having to open the application, then enter the chat and block the number.

The feature is already rolling out in a phased manner to all accounts, so you should see it available in the next few hours or days.
