WhatsApp doesn’t want you to save profile pictures of other users

Nothing screenshots, It’s WhatsApp. This is the latest innovation from the world’s most popular messaging platform, intended to improve the privacy of users (by the way, do you know what WhatsApp channels are and what they are for?).

But what does it mean? WhatsApp has long been committed to improving privacy of its users, including the contrast of the download and the diffusion of Images unauthorized.

One of the moves in this sense was the removal five years ago of the option which allowed you to save photo of other users’ profiles, a block that could still be avoided by touching the profile picture and then taking a screenshot.

But now with the latest beta of the Android messaging app, version number 2.24.4.25this procedure is no longer possible because when you try to take a screenshot of a photo of the profile, a appears notification which indicates that the action has been blocked.

This new feature adds an additional level of protection of privacy, as it prevents users from capturing and sharing profile photos without the owner’s consent.

Of course, you can always take a photo from another phone after opening the image in profile, but there is not much that can be done about this, and WhatsApp aims above all to offer greater control over privacy and combat it immediate sharing

In general, however, this is a novelty that goes in the right direction to prevent its use improper and unauthorized distribution of profile images, as well as mitigating the risk of impersonation and harassment.

As we said, the new feature is present in the latest beta of WhatsApp for Android, version 2.24.4.25but at the moment it may be that even if you download the update it is not yet available for you.
