The At a glance widget is becoming the perfect companion for travel

One of the most versatile features of the Pixels is the widget At a glance (Summary), which allows users to immediately get (at a glance, in fact) information about what’s next appointments, on the weather forecast or on transport directly from the home screen and lock screen (do you know how to create widgets for Android?).

And just me transport are an interesting point, because on the support page, Google specifies how the tool is able to provide information on both flights what about trains, as “for example platform, station name, status or seat information“, but the latter feature has not been widely implemented globally.

Until now, because from Germany we have just had an indication of how the Summary widget Now you have data on at least DB’s (Deutsche Bahn) long-distance trains, which gives us the opportunity to understand how it works.

As you can see from the screenshots below, DB has indeed changed the interface of its train ticket booking email, which probably involves an update to follow the guidelines of Google to allow Gmail to extract the information from voyage and offer them to Summary. Previously (image below left) the data was in a PDF attachmentwhile now all the details are included in a diagram that seems to be provided by the GrandeG app itself (image below on the right).

This therefore allows Riepilogo to retrieve the necessary information and show users real-time updates on the trip, as we can see in the screenshots belowwith data relating to the platform and arrival time.

At the moment it is not clear whether what we are witnessing is an actual one Summary update and its expansion globally (outside the United States) or simply the fact that DB has finally implemented one active function for some time (although we don’t know when).

As we anticipated, the support page Google already indicates the availability of the service, which however requires particular formatting by the railway operator in the email confirmation of ticket.

What is clear is that Google wants him railway operators adapt to this format because, as demonstrated by the major October update, it considers the widget as a central part of its experience on mobile devices.
