XCloud free but with advertising: here is Microsoft’s alleged idea

Interesting news from Microsoft. In particular, Tim StuartCFO of the company’s gaming sector, during an interview with Wells Fargo TMT Summitspeaking about XCloud, stated that Microsoft could offer the opportunity to stream games for free in exchange for viewing some advertisements.

Going into the news video, the Xbox Cloud Gaming (xCloud) service could grant users the ability to play for free for two hours in exchange for viewing a 30 second ad. This option could materialize especially in some regions such as Africa, India and South-East Asia: here, in fact, consoles are not yet as widespread as smartphones.

Therefore, Microsoft is trying to explore new strategies, also because the Xbox Cloud Gaming service is finding enough space in new markets, having also achieved strong success thanks to the Fortnite game, the only free playable title (which attracted over 20 million of players streaming).

While waiting for confirmation on this hypothesis, according to some sources the development of xCloud would have slowed down in the last year, with the company also abandoning plans on the possible launch of a separate paid version of the service (Microsoft preferred to leave it included in the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription plan). In any case, the company is trying to improve the streaming gaming experience, studying among other things the mouse and keyboard compatibility for xCloud.
