Google has done a lot of work on Android, its little green robot which has seen the arrival of new features and new features in the latest generations.

And among the new features introduced we have seen great efforts for those that concern the privacy of its users. And speaking of privacy, more news is arriving on Android 14.

The innovations we are talking about closely concern the acquisition of screenshots. This operation has been present on Android since the dawn of time, it is very convenient in different contexts but in some cases it could cause a danger for privacy. The cases in which screenshot acquisition represents a problem are, for example, those referring to screens where they are present sensitive informationsuch as ephemeral messages.

Take a screenshot on a factual ephemeral message makes the message no longer ephemeral. The same happens for other sensitive information, which may include banking apps.

For the latter case, countermeasures are already available, given that these banking apps they block screenshots regardless.

However, it should arrive on Android 14 an additional functionality which allows you to receive a warning if a specific takes a screenshot without the user’s knowledge. Such alerts would be generated thanks to a new flag which would be able to detect whenever a screenshot is taken on the system.

The warning it would be proposed in the form you see in the screenshot below, with a popup window which indicates the name of the app that just took the screenshot. It still remains to be seen whether this functionality will be sensitive to screenshots acquired via methods alternatives to the classic key combination, such as gestures or customized combinations via third-party mods.

Still we don’t know much when his release will be public, as it is still in development. Certainly, it will be a further step forward to satisfy those who are very attentive to their privacy even on messaging apps.
