Android 15 wants to be loved by grandparents too (rightly so)!

As simple as Android smartphones are to use, it certainly cannot be said that they are poor in settings and features, to the point that not all users may need them. After all, there are those who (incredible but true) use the phone only to… phone! (or a little more) So Android 15 could have a solution, called easy pre-set.

Found by Android Authority, this new mode, currently hidden in the Android 14 QPR3 code, will go to clean up the interface from complications and functionality, to make it as “grandfather-proof” as possible (no offense to the grandparents!). Google describes it like this:

Easy pre-set improves readability by enlarging icons and text, adding contrast and bold, and adding navigation buttons to the bottom of the screen.

In addition to this, it seems that the background is completely eliminated and replaced with a black imagejust to eliminate any distractions.

In short, the idea is simple: nothing gesture, because they are clearly not intuitive for those who don’t know them, no frills, large and easily readable icons and text. We don’t know if there will be other limitationsfor example on the number of icons on the home page, on the app drawer or on the settings.

Unfortunately traces of this mode are present in the code, but it was not possible to activate it to try it out, and this is unlikely to be part of the quarterly platform release, because it is still very incomplete; it is more likely that Google will keep it in reserve for Android 15, but since the developer preview of the next version of Android should be around the corner, it is not excluded that we will find out more soon. In the meantime, alert your grandparents!
