Like every month, Google publish the Android Security Bulletin, which contains details on the vulnerabilities affecting the green robot’s devices.
This document is typically released on the 5th of each month, and offers a summary of corrections (mitigations) applied, with the indicated severity of fixed vulnerabilities. This month I’m well 85of which 5 are level Critic, that is, they should be corrected as soon as possible, but are not yet available for i Pixels (do you know how to update a Pixel with OTA files?).
Let’s try to understand what’s happening. The Security bulletin Android identifies the security patches applied to the operating system, but the various manufacturers must insert them into their customized system and distribute them to their users, also including fixes to vulnerabilities specific to their version of Android.
For this reason, and to ensure a timely release to devices, Google notifies Android partners of these issues one month in advance publication, while the patches of the source code they are released on AOSP within two days.
This month, as we said, the bulletin, which contains the patches of December 1st and December 5th, offers fixes to several vulnerabilities criticism, as well as numerous level indications High. One in particular, highlighted as criticism, is one of the most important released this year as it solves a problem that would otherwise allow the execution of remote code without the need for user interaction.
Since Google itself releases these bulletins, you’d expect the Pixels to be the first to receive the update, but that’s not the case. In fact, in the Bulletin, Google also includes the link to Pixel Update Bulletinbut the one for December 2023 refers to a “not found” page.
Actually this isn’t one novelty: Pixels have not received updates with the latest security patches for some time first Monday of the month, and it happened to go much further. At this point, given the severity of the fix applied, it is possible that Google will release the update together with the next one Feature Dropswhich also promises to be particularly rich.
According to previews leaked online, the update should bring two functions pretty cool, like the ability to set one animated background on the lock screen different from the home screen, and adding a search bar in the taskbar on tablets and foldables.
