The new design of Google Chat makes its way to Android: let’s see what it’s like

Google Chat won’t be the most popular solution among apps messaging, but Google believes a lot in it and its integration with Gmail makes it a particularly interesting tool to work with (do you know how to enable RCS messages?).

In recent weeks the app has received a series of novelty: a new icon and, starting from iOS, even one new interfacewhich is now underway distribution on the robot’s phones, both in the app stand alone than in Gmail.

In the Google Chat app, unlike the previous bottom bar with the icon Chat and gods Spaces and the button to write a new message (FAB, Floating Acion Button, image below on the left), we now find an indicator a pill form with four icons, Home, Direct messages, Spaces And Mentions, with the button for the new message in a square shape with rounded corners next to it (image below on the right).

Unfortunately, under the icons you no longer find the labels indicating what you have selected, as is now the habit of Google apps, but the icons themselves are rather intuitive.

Moving on to Gmail, however, the situation becomes a little more complex. We remind you that if you want to use Chat in Gmail you must enable the appropriate setting by touching the icon with three horizontal lines at the top left, select bottom Settings, tap the account and below General put the check next to Chats – Shows the Chats and Spaces tabs.

This way you will activate the function, and if you receive the new interface you will no longer see the new icons Chat And Spaces Between Gmail And Meet (image below left), but a single icon, which if touched will show the a tab pill form and the button New message which we saw earlier (image below right).

Here it seems to make a little too much crowded the lower bar, although obviously it is subjective, as is the judgment from a functional point of view. The new design is currently rolling out with a server-side update on Android but we, unlike iOS he was born in Webwe haven’t gotten it on our phones yet.
