Google all AI: Gemma and Gemini’s business plans arrive

Google’s race is unstoppable in artificial intelligencewhich now arrives in the open models sector with Gem, and as announced brings Gemini to the business accounts instead of Duet AI: let’s find out what these mean and what they entail novelty (if you are wondering what Gemini is and how it works, don’t forget to take a look at our in-depth analysis).

Gemma: Google’s family of open templates

Let’s start with the most interesting news, the arrival of Gem. As you might guess from the name, Gem comes from Gemini, but is not exactly there same thing.

In fact, with Gemma, Google launches itself into the data processing sector open modelsor those models like LLama 2 by Meta e Mistral from the startup Mistral that allow developers to customize the weights (aperti stands for open-weight), i.e. the pre-trained parameters of the model in order to obtain better results for certain tasks.

But what is the difference with Gemini? First of all, Gemini is a model multimodal, therefore trained on multiple input types such as text, images, video and audio, while Gemma is a family of linguistic models.

Secondly, Gemini it’s a closed modelthen developers can access the API, but do not change i weights, while with Gem, which includes the models Gemma 2B and 7B (the difference lies in the number of parameters used for training), as we were saying, the weights can be modified by the developers.

This means you can, for example, give the model images of dog breeds to make him better at creating the image of a dog. There is no need for many images, in fact they don’t have to be many images: about twenty are enough (remember: the model is already trained, you just have to act on the weights).

Other characteristics of the Gemma models are the fact of being responsible, as they comply with rigorous security standards to create content that is safe, and can be run on consumer computers (desktops and laptops). Google claims to have collaborated with NVIDIA to optimize Gemma for the company’s GPUs, whether i server in data centers or cards RTX graphics.

How powerful are Gemma models? Google showed a table showing how thanks to sharing key components with Gemini, Gemma 2B and 7B they achieve best-in-class performance for their size compared to other open models, and outperform significantly larger models on parameters key reference.

Gemma is available now as a demo on the Hugging Face site, or you can access it from Colab, Kaggle, Hugging Face, MaxText, NVIDIA NeMo and TensorRT-LLM.

Additionally, the models are also available on Vertex AI and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) platforms.

Say hello to Duet AI: Gemini arrives on Workspace

The other new feature (announced) is the rebranding of Duet AI in Gemini with the new plans business And enterprise of Workspace. In this case it is not new, but the features are the same as before, such as Help me write in Gmail and Google Docs, which also has proofreading.

In Google Slides you can find Create imageswhile in Google Meet it is available Generate a background. In the video calling app you will also find improvements for effects, while in Sheets Help me organize will allow you to create custom tables/templates and Enhanced Smart Fill helps speed up your workflow.

But the most interesting news is the fact that Gemini Business and Enterprise customers can now access the chat with the model Gemini 1.0 Ultra on the gemini.google.com website.

Gemini Business is available with a lower price offering, and this plan gives access to Gemini for Workspace with some monthly usage limits, including experiences like Help me write in Docs and Gmail, Enhanced Smart Fill in Sheets and generating images in Slides, starting with $20 per user per month with an annual commitment.

Gemini Enterprisewhich replaces Duet AI for Workspace Enterprise, costs money $30 per user per month with an annual commitment, and offers the same features as Gemini Business but without usage limits.

The plan also includes additional features for AI-powered meetings, such as the ability to translate subtitles into more than 100 languages and soon even take notes for the meeting. Starting today, Duet AI for Workspace customers will automatically be upgraded to Gemini Enterprise.
