Here is ICARO X4, the Italian robot that prevents vineyard diseases

Italyas we know, is a country that focuses a lot on wines. In this sense, the company Male Gaspardo has developed a small robot that will help wineries fight harmful fungi and mold: it’s about ICARO X4. Going into detail, this robot was designed to autonomously navigate among the well-known Italian vineyards, also determining the ideal time to treat the crops so as to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria.

In fact, the little robot, to understand the ideal moment to take action, it is able to collect humidity and temperature data via your weather station. As the company explained, ICARO X4 is equipped with “large foldable UV-C emission panels, which are emitted and applied to the plant to be treated simply by passing the panel a few centimeters from the leaves. The application of UV-C rays of a specific wavelength on the plant triggers a mechanism biological that stimulates the plant’s immune defenses. UV-C rays also break down the DNA of pathogens such as powdery mildew, powdery mildew and botrytis, preventing them from developing on the plant.”

According to the manufacturer, a single ICARO robot is capable of maintain up to 15 hectares (approximately 37 acres) of fungi- and fungi-free vineyard, potentially reducing a farm’s use of chemical fungicides by 70%. The company unveiled the ICARO X4 at World FIRA last weekend and specified that five of these robots are already in operation in France and Italy. As for the selling price, ICARO is expensive €115,000.
